FAQS

  • 1. How do I prepare my home for a photo or 3D tour shoot?
Treat it like a showing. Start with a full tidy + clean (floors, counters, mirrors, glass, stainless). All ceiling fans off. Declutter surfaces and remove personal items (toothbrushes, shampoos, family photos, fridge magnets). Open blinds/curtains for natural light and replace any burned-out bulbs (use matching color temperature if possible). Hide cords, remote controls, pet items, and trash cans. Make beds, stage pillows neatly, and straighten rugs. Park cars out of the driveway if possible and clear the entry/porch area. For 3D tours, open interior doors you want visible, and turn on lights (unless we advise otherwise for specific rooms). If you have any areas you *don’t* want scanned/photographed, just close those doors and let us know before we start.
  • 2. What are the differences between a Matterport® 3D tour and a Zillow® 3D tour?
Both create an immersive walk-through, but they’re built for different goals. Matterport is typically the most “feature-rich” platform (dollhouse view, measurement tools, Mattertags, robust embed/sharing options, and strong add-ons for documentation and AEC workflows). Zillow 3D Home is designed to integrate tightly with Zillow listings and can be a simple, cost-effective 3D option for marketing on Zillow (often paired with a Zillow floor plan where available). In general: choose Matterport when you want the most interactive/technical capabilities and broader use cases; choose Zillow 3D when your priority is Zillow-focused exposure and a streamlined 3D experience.
  • 3. How the Matterport® 3D Model different from a typical panoramic photo?
A panoramic photo depicts a space from one fixed viewpoint and lets you turn left or right. A 3D Model lets you walk through the space to experience it as if you were there.
  • 4. How long does it take to scan a typical home with Matterport®? Can I make measurements with my Matterport® 3D Tour?
A typical 2,000 sq ft home can be scanned in about an hour.
Matterport® has added a measure icon so you can measure anything within the 3D tour, like ceiling height, room dimensions, furniture size, cabinet/countertop space and more!
  • 5. How long does it take to capture a Zillow® 3D tour and what is the delivery time?
In most cases it will take less than 1 hour to capture up to a 3,000 square foot home, with same day tour and floor plan delivery.
  • 5. How long does it take to get a Matterport 3D model completed?
In most cases it will take less than 24 hours from scanning to a completed 3D model.
  • 6. How large of an area can be scanned?
A model of an area up to 200,000 square feet. That can vary, depending on the layout of the property and furniture.
  • 7. What about scanning outdoor spaces?
With the Matterport® Pro3 liDAR camera, outside 3D scanning is now possible. This would be very useful as a presentation for residential real estate with large homesites and outdoor features to include in the 3D tour and also large commercial spaces with or without outside space. The dollhouse view would be very detailed and measurements would be possible of outside dimensions of driveways, landscaping, pools, boat docks, and other features. This would be great for maintenance estimates of painting, landscaping, and repaving estimates of driveways.
The Matterport® Pro2 camera is primarily used for indoor spaces and does not function as well in sunlight or in wide open spaces. Some models have had success with external spaces such as lanais and patios when there is no direct sunlight (such as at dawn or dusk).
360 outside scans can be added to the dollhouse, slideshow and 3D tour. So it is now possible to add 360 exterior scans to the interior 3D scans so you can navigate from the inside to the outside and back.
  • 8. What are Mattertags?
Mattertags annotate points in 3D Space for Real Estate,Travel & Hospitality, Media, and Other Industries.
When a viewer mouses over or clicks on a Mattertag marker, a billboard appears with a short text description of the tagged feature, object, or area.
  • 9. How accurate are Matterport® floor plans?
    An amazing 99%
  • 10. Architecture, Engineering & Construction uses?
The Matterport® E57 is available for purchase and the file contains a high-density point cloud for all scan locations in the Matterport space. It contains point cloud, pano images, and metadata from each scan location. The file format, .E57, is a compact, vendor-neutral point cloud format that’s defined by the ASTM E2807 standard. The E57 file is for architects, MEP engineers, general contractors, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, BIM managers, VDC managers, and other construction professionals who need a higher density point cloud than the MatterPak .XYZ point cloud file(also available for purchase) provides to complete complex workflows.

What Is the MatterPak™ Bundle? The MatterPak™ Bundle is a set of assets that you can download and import into third-party programs. It contains:

    Colorized point cloud (.XYZ)
    Reflected ceiling plan image
(.JPG) Multiple files if multiple floors
(.PDF) All floors in one file
High-resolution floor plan image. This is not the Schematic Floor Plans. This is similar to the ceiling plan image but of the floor.
(.JPG) Multiple files if multiple floors
(.PDF) All floors in one file
3D mesh file (.OBJ) including the necessary texture map image files (.JPG)
